Privacy policy
1. Controller
The controller for data processing on this website and in the SFX-Trimmer app is the person named in the imprint above (contact: support@sfxtrimmer.com).
2. The short version
- Your sounds are never uploaded: the tool on this website and the app process them exclusively on your own computer.
- There are no user accounts and no ads.
- Usage analytics (PostHog) only runs with your consent; without it, no analytics script is loaded.
- The website, downloads and the app’s update check are served by our own server in a data centre in Germany.
3. Hosting and server logs
This website, the program downloads and the app’s update check (section 6) are served by a rented virtual server of the hosting provider Hostinger (Hostinger International Ltd., 61 Lordou Vironos Street, 6023 Larnaca, Cyprus) in a data centre in Germany. Hostinger processes the data only on our behalf (Art. 28 GDPR).
For every request, the web server keeps an access log with the shortened IP address (the last part is removed before it is stored), date and time, the address requested, the result (status code), the amount of data transferred, the previously visited page (referrer) and the browser or program identifier (user agent). We use the log to run the website securely and reliably, to detect errors and abuse, and to compile aggregated figures (for example how often a page was visited or a download was fetched). The logs are deleted automatically after 14 days; the aggregated figures contain no personal data.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in secure, reliable operation and in an overview of usage (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Without your consent, this website sets no cookies and loads nothing from other providers (no embedded fonts, videos or third-party scripts).
4. The tool on this website
Files you drop into or select in the tool are read by your browser and trimmed there by a program component (WebAssembly). They are not transmitted to us or to third parties; the results are also created in your browser and downloaded from there.
Your settings in the tool (e.g. the lead-in) and your decision about usage analytics are stored in your browser’s local storage (localStorage) so they are kept for your next visit. This data does not leave your browser. This is strictly necessary for the functions you requested (Section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG); you can delete it at any time in your browser settings.
5. Usage analytics with PostHog (only with consent)
If you choose “Accept” in the notice, we use PostHog to measure how this website and the tool are used – in order to improve them. The provider is PostHog Inc., 2261 Market St., #4008, San Francisco, CA 94114, USA; we use its EU version, whose servers are located in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Requests are routed through our own server (path /ingest), which forwards them to PostHog.
The following is recorded: pages visited and the previously visited page, clicks and steps in the tool (for example how many files of which format were processed, how long it took, whether errors occurred and which downloads were started), details about your browser, operating system, device type and screen size, your approximate country, and a random identifier that PostHog stores in a cookie or in your browser’s local storage (name starting with “ph_”) to recognise repeat visits. Screen sessions may also be recorded (mouse movements, clicks, scrolling); inputs and the names of your files are masked. Your sounds themselves are never transmitted. PostHog does not store your IP address.
The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, Section 25(1) TDDDG). You can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future – via “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page; this also deletes the PostHog data in your browser. Without consent, PostHog is not loaded at all. PostHog processes the data on our behalf (Art. 28 GDPR); analytics data is deleted after twelve months at the latest, recordings after 30 days. As PostHog Inc. is based in the USA, access from the USA cannot be completely ruled out; PostHog relies on the EU standard contractual clauses for this. More: PostHog’s privacy policy.
6. The SFX-Trimmer app
The app processes your files exclusively locally. Files, file names and contents are never transmitted. Settings and a technical log (for troubleshooting) are stored on your computer only; you can delete them at any time.
Update check: At startup, the app requests the file https://sfxtrimmer.com/version.json once to let you know about a new version. Only the technically necessary details reach our server (section 3), in particular your IP address; the only program identifier sent is “SFX-Trimmer” – no version number, no identifier, no files, no cookies. The app itself compares whether a newer version is available. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in informing you about bug fixes and new versions (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can turn the check off in the app settings under “Check for updates”. Apart from this, the app makes no internet connections.
7. Contact by email
If you send us an email, we process your email address and the content of your message in order to answer your request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, otherwise (f)). Our mailbox is operated by IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Straße 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany. We delete messages once they are no longer needed, unless statutory retention obligations apply.
8. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the rights of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21). You can withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future (section 5). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. As we do not know you by name, we can only match requests about analytics data if you help us – for example with the identifier from your browser’s “ph_…” cookie.
